This is a handsome Hackberry & Mahogany striped Travel Mug
As I make these travel mugs it turns out that 6 or 8 staves with thin contrasting accent stripes really looks good to me, and I’ve sold many of this style.
To me Hackberry with the rich light brown heartwood is one of the most beautiful woods. Paired with the Mahogany stripes make this one of my favorite travel mugs.
For my turnings I generally use domestic woods that have been found and or repurposed. I will fell a tree only if it is already dead or has otherwise been selected for removal. That being said I do have access to some exotic or rain forest pieces that I will use until they are gone. I really enjoy working with wood, particularly if it has some history to it or has been originally a piece of furniture from days gone by. Perhaps a log from a tree that I know from which part of the country it came from, or a neighbors or family member. Gives me something to ponder as I create.
